Keith Dowley is a director of Ultimate Joinery Solutions and the guest on Episode 5 of The Healthy House Podcast, “Why Quality Joinery Is Worth Every Penny.”

Keith’s route into the trade started with work experience at 13 and an apprenticeship in cabinetmaking, followed by years in shopfitting and the new-build industry. He left that industry with just three weeks of work lined up and started Ultimate Joinery Solutions alongside his son from the back of a van, growing the business through reputation, reliability and word-of-mouth recommendations rather than advertising.

On the episode, Keith talks through what bespoke joinery actually covers — from handmade furniture to projects built around unusual spaces — and goes into detail on traditional box sash windows: the work involved in making them, and why regular maintenance, including keeping the protective paintwork in good condition, matters more than most homeowners realise.
